It is all good until i get to the last step, where you say to add a new layer, and fill it. when i try to add a new layer it wont do anything until i select none. however when i select none, my work in step five dissapears. if you can help me with that, then i would be ever gratefull. (i did all the steps correctly, i am not really a gimp newb, just dont get this part.
Great tut, had no problems to go through the steps, oh, besides the last one. when i did the gradient over the text and went to " selesction:none" my text was gone:o
i solved that with " trail selection : 1 pixel". is there some easier way?
my text looks also not hat good, because somehow, i got it in the same layer as those outer rings.. when i diminished the opaciness of the layer, the text went also less sightable:O
but the rest of the tut is reallly great. i work with gimp since over a year, and find still a lot of things i deednt knew or never tried ( BTW i think gimp sucks but at least its free..so what).
plz look my result under
i added some glow and gaussian blur to the orb, the lower parts and the outer circles and used a different text ( if you cant read it it sasys " be glow.be the flow.be berlin" after that famous slogan from our german community berlin page *g*)...
Nice effect, simple in hind-sight. - to the author, it does get comfusing, and remember we are stupid! please try not to over simplify your explaination, eg the phrase "then do as before....", do what as before? before when? with what expected result?
Thanks for all the help - I've just made my first batch of brushes following the posts here. I have just released a bunch of Gimp Vector Brushes for those interested: http://designshrine.net/2009/01/06/freebies-gimp-vector-brushes. Thanks and keep up the great work!
I am just trying out this tutorial, im quite newbie at this. But when i opened a document at 600 by 600 i had a white background and onyl one layer, why on the picture is there two layers and the grey anf white shaded checkers design. Did i miss a step or something.
God i must be dumb none of those steps make any sense, it like these tutorials were made for advanced gimpsters. I have no clue of one step from another i can't get past step one.
Its a really good tutorial, I was searching through the web and found it.
And a very nice site as well I have to say.
Well you know what? I would really like to see how this would work in a signature :)
Hi, I don't really understand in which program I'm supposed to "make a new html document" in, got any ideas/step-by-step? I've designed a thing in GIMP and I need some help with inserting a music player in it, and overall-coding. Thank you.
to the person who suggested we all get PS4... I have it, but I like using GIMP at work (portable APP) my best guess is that you are not smart enough to use it... sorry for you!!!

ok, right, thanks for all the feedback! and yes this is a rather advanced tutorial, but it's also my first so bare with me ;)
I might have a go at doing this a bit better, but I would rather wait and do another tutorial. But then you'll have to wait until I get an idea =P

How do you add the images to a web page so that there is no gap between them?

its ok i guess its not as badass as u dumass computer nerds think...
to000o coo000ol!
the brush folder is in APP> GIMP> SHARE> GIMP> 2.0
this is after you go into the folder that GIMP is installed in on your comp :)

Try using Safari.
To install on a mac:
Right click Gimp, select "Show Package Contents", then to the following directory: /Contents/Resources/share/gimp/2.0/brushes/.
Thats it! Just drop it into the "brushes" directory, and you done.
